E Ink: Japan Tests E-Paper for Train Station Ads

E-paper-based signage in public spaces is still rare. A Japanese company now debuts ad displays in Japanese train stations that are made up of four E Ink Spectra 6 panels.

E-Paper Displays will be installed as OoH media in Japanese railway stations. This news comes from e-paper manufacturer E Ink who is collaborating with an advertising agency called Oricom to create a new signage solution, the Sustainable Board, using E Ink’s Spectra 6 panels.

The Sustainable Board is composed of four Spectra 6 panels arranged to create a larger, videowall-style display surface.

Like most E-Ink-based solutions, the Sustainable Board can operate on batteries or renewable energy sources such as solar power – given there are no constant content changes. This makes the product suitable for locations without a direct connection to the electrical grid.

Oricom plans to market the product under its brand Mirapale, targeting companies and public spaces seeking environmentally conscious advertising solutions. Intended installation sites include corporate receptions, lobbies, showrooms, commercial centers, and tourist destinations.

Following the initial deployment at major railway stations, there are plans to expand the system to other high-traffic locations with high advertising demand.
