The CES is always good for innovative form factors – this year LG integrates an LED projector into a floor lamp. More than just a design object, the PF600U serves as a projector, Bluetooth speaker and LED mood light. It could also be an interesting – albeit limited – use case for retail for digital signage.
Three years ago, Samsung presented the Freestyle projector at CES, which could be integrated into the lamp sockets of hanging lamps using an adapter. Now LG is following suit with a floor lamp projector. The focus for both concepts is maximum space efficiency and lifestyle.
LG integrates a LED projector into a designer floor lamp combined with Bluetooth speaker and an LED mood lamp. During the day, the speakers and the mood lamp bring atmosphere into the room, in the evening you fold the lampshade over and the lamp becomes an LED projector for the home cinema.
Mood and atmosphere in the room
The projector offers FHD resolution, 300 ANSI lumens brightness and streaming via LG webOS. The integrated stereo speakers are designed to provide rich and immersive sound, while the LED mood lamp improves the atmosphere with nine colors and five brightness levels. The lamp head can be tilted by 110 degrees and the floor lamp becomes a projector including automatic screen adjustment functions.
Real life experience shows that 300 nits LED projectors do not allow bright projections in normal lighting conditions and over longer distances, but it can be sufficient for smaller ambient projections and in completely darkened rooms. For digital signage use, prices or product information could be projected onto the wall.
4k Ultra-Throw Projector
In addition to the floor lamp projector, LG is presenting a new 4K Ultra Short Throw Projector (UST) at CES. The CineBeam S (model PU615U) is the successor to the LG CineBeam Q. LG sticks with a mobile design to either hide the projector when not in use or to move it around the house (Kids will love it). The UHD projector offers 500 ANSI lumens of brightness and produces images with 154 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 color space. Its ultra-short throw capability projects images from 40 to 100 inches with only a small distance from the wall, thus maximizing the use of space.
Based on WebOS, it offers easy access to popular streaming platforms as well as intuitive functions such as wall color adjustment.
