Samsung presented at the CES 2022 keynote a new product category with The Freestyle: a portable LED projector integrated with Smart TV, Smart Speaker and Ambient Light functions. The new Gen Z device projects images up to 100” and can also be installed via an adaptor in an E26 lamp socket.
The Freestyle is aimed at Generation Z and Millennials and is a projector, a smart speaker and ambient lighting in one lightweight, portable device. The Freestyle weighs just 830 grams and turns any room into a screen. Unlike conventional, box-shaped projectors, the Freestyle’s versatile mount can be rotated up to 180 degrees, so videos can be projected anywhere – on tables, on the floor, on walls or on the ceiling – a separate screen is not required.
The Freestyle has an automatic keystone, leveling and autofocus function that allows the image quality to be automatically adjusted to any surface and angle. In addition, the portable projector offers a 360-degree speaker with decent bass.
Power is supplied via external power banks (USB-PD 50W/20V) or, for the first time for an AV device, via a standard E26 lamp socket. When the projector is not being used to display images, the Freestyle also offers atmospheric lighting effects to match the music.
The Freestyle is obviously not intended for professional use as LED projector does not provide sufficient brightness. Nevertheless, The Freestyle offers many new innovative approaches that have been integrated together in one device for the first time and would also be practical for retail, hospitality and other B2B markets.
