Barcelona | What would a new trade policy mean for digital signage? That was the key topic at last week’s invidis Executive Lounge – after visiting some of Barcelona’s craziest stores.
Last week, invidis hosted its annual Executive Lounge. For three years now, executives from the digital signage industry have used this format for networking. Previously held in Munich, this year’s Europe edition took place in Barcelona with support from Google ChromeOS. The host was local digital signage company Admira that not only has a showroom in the City but also operates three dark stores, which invidis and the 26 guests visited.
The first store – probably the most unique sneaker store in the world – features Admira’s collection of some of the most coveted sneakery, integrated into a completely networked and automated retail experience. The other two stores are inspired by Back to the Future and Star Wars. All three hidden locations, show how Admira Founder Carlos Silva Santin envisions an IoT centered future of retail.
In addition to the store tour, the Executive Lounge featured invidis’ traditional market update. A key topic was the impact of the Trump election in the USA on the digital signage industry. A key topic was the impact of the Trump election in the USA on the digital signage industry. Early consequences are already noticeable in Europe: since November 5, there has been a 60% increase in containers shipped to the USA, primarily carrying goods made in China, including digital signage hardware. This surge reflects a temporary export boom driven by concerns over potential tariffs.
Next Executive Lounge in Palm Springs
Those discussions will continue in two weeks’ time: The next invidis Executive Lounge will take place in Palm Springs, California, and will gather industry executives from the other side of the Atlantic.
