LG Display is unveiling its fourth-generation OLED panels this week at SID Display Week 2025 in San Jose. With brightness levels reaching up to 4,000 nits, these new displays are versatile enough for everything from automotive and mobile devices to high-demand digital signage applications.
LG Display, the sister company and component of LG Electronics, is known for leading the way in OLED technology, especially for large screens. At the SID developer trade show in San Jose, California, LG Display is showcasing the latest technologies that will soon be making their way into TVs and digital signage displays.
Their new fourth-generation OLED panels use a unique Primary RGB Tandem design, where the red, green, and blue layers are stacked separately to emit light. This setup allows the panels to reach a peak brightness of 4,000 nits, which is as high as it gets in TVs and professional displays (for reference, 1 nit equals the brightness of a candle). The panels also feature a special film that helps display natural colors and consistent brightness in any lighting, so that even in bright rooms, the panels produce vivid colors and deep blacks—similar to watching a movie in a dark cinema.
LG sees this new OLED generation as ideal for AI-powered TVs and gaming screens. Thanks to improvements in how the panel elements and power system are designed, the panels are about 20 percent more energy efficient than the previous generation, based on a 65-inch screen.
World’s highest OLED resolution
At SID Display Week 2025, LG Display is showcasing a 45-inch 5K2K OLED gaming monitor with a resolution of 5120 x 2160—the highest ever for an OLED display. This screen contains approximately 11 million tightly packed pixels.
At SID, LG Display is also unveiling a 45-inch 5K2K OLED gaming monitor with a resolution of 5120 x 2160—making it the highest-resolution OLED display in the world. With approximately 11 million tightly packed pixels, it delivers an ultra-sharp and immersive visual experience for gamers.
Debut of blue phosphorescent OLED technology
LG Display is also presenting its blue phosphorescent OLED technology for the first time, designed for devices like smartphones and tablets. This next-gen technology offers a much higher light output than previous OLED versions.
Thanks to the blue phosphorescent layer at the top of the panel stack, the new OLED display uses about 15 percent less power compared to current models. LG Display is the first company to commercialize this technology, signaling a major step forward for OLED panels.
