Another outdoor kiosk manufacturer is embracing e-paper. Following Dynascan’s lead, Praevar is now showcasing a 75-inch e-poster with E Ink Kaleido-3, set for release in Q4 this year.
The Canadian company Praevar plans to integrate e-paper into its DooH street furniture. Its “Podium” series offers various kiosk configurations for free-standing installations or waiting halls. Now, Praevar has introduced what it claims is a market-ready e-paper version of its kiosk series: the Podium E-Luminex E-Poster. This 75-inch display, featuring E Ink Kaleido-3 technology, fits into the same outdoor kiosk frame as its high-brightness LCD models. The obvious advantage is its low power consumption, allowing for solar or battery-powered operation concepts, making it independent of the electrical grid.
At ISE 2025, Taiwanese competitor Dynascan and Samsung showcased similar kiosk designs with E Ink displays. However, neither has announced a market launch. In contrast, Praevar aims to release its version in Q4 this year, despite Kaleido-3’s limited color range and the probably very high price tag.
DooH applications still uncertain
Color reproduction is one of the main problems with the Kaleido 3 technology. However, bringing full rage of color to 75-inch panels – currently the largest available as a single unit – could be the next step of development for E Ink. While limited colors may not be an issue for smart city applications, it makes DooH marketing difficult. Brands rely on accurate color representation, and if their signature colors are compromised, the medium becomes impractical for advertising campaigns.
Meanwhile, Praevar is also optimizing the energy consumption of its high-brightness LCDs. For its 4,000 and 2,500-nit displays, it uses dynamic local dimming with 200 dimming zones, potentially reducing energy use by up to 35%. Depending on requirements, the kioks are also designed to accommodate LED displays or static posters.
