The Downtown Denver Partnership has replaced a set of analog MallRide signs along the bustling 16th Street Mall with five big interactive stations that are collectively called IKE – short for Interactive Kiosk Experience.
The project, two years in the making, turned on Tuesday. A sixth kiosk is on an adjacent street.
The digital screens function as information portals, economic development tools, engagement opportunities and a safety resource. There are directory functions for downtown restaurants, bars, stores and hotels, as well as event listings, maps, walking directions and transit information.
“We developed IKE to build upon the brand of downtown Denver and continue the tradition of bringing the most advanced technologies and innovation to our center city,” Tami Door, president and CEO of DDP, told the Denver Business Journal. “IKE helps energize our commercial core and will help us provide an even better experience for downtown consumers.”
The project was was privately funded by Street Media Group (which will sell ads on the displays) and the DDP, and was put together by a team of Colorado-based companies that included Four Winds Interactive, enclosure fabricator Display Devices, a couple of game-makers – Mode Set and Oh Heck Yeah – and app firm Leg Work Studios. The project consultant was FinWater Advisors.
