Projection mapping can be extraodinary, but the problem I have seen repeatedly with big public projects has been the absence of a real theme and any sense of continuity. Quite often it’s a disjointed string of visual tricks, backed by electronic music.
So I was pleased to read about and then watch a set of videos about a Roman Catholic cathedral in Beauvais, (northern) France that’s mapped the facade of the gothic cathedral and woven a full visual story about its roots. Really nice.
The BBC has a video report on it as well, that shows the technology work done to pull it off.
The creative is done by an agency called Skertzo, which is based in Paris.
