Kyle Porter has quickly become well-known in the space as one of the key customer-facing guys at NanoLumens, but that’s about to change as he leaves the company to co-found a software start-up.
He called me the other day to fill me in, and when he said he was leaving to start a software firm, I started thinking, “Oh please don’t say you’re doing digital signage software …”
He’s not. He’s more than smart enough to know that’s a ridiculously crowded field and likely a poverty vow.
Porter was happy as a clam at Atlanta-based NanoLumens – which makes those lightweight, flexible LED panels that have won some big awards and big contracts.
While I cannot envision ever leaving to join an existing company, he writes in his blog, when the opportunity came to start one, I had to jump on it. Fortunately the team here has been understanding and very supportive in my move. See mentioned above re: “amazing group of people”.
For a quick intro, here are a few things about the new company:
- It’s B2B. That’s what I’ve always done and that’s what I believe I do best
- It’s software, meaning no physical development or inventory
- I have a fantastic business partner with a solid track record and an ability to fill in the many areas where I am inexperienced
- It’s not specific to digital signage
- It’s funded
Kyle’s blog hints fairly strongly at the sector this start-up is going to play in, but I’ll just say sales and data mining.
Good luck, Kyle!
