Tokyo: JC Decaux Acquires Taxi Shelter OoH Network

JC Decaux moves into Tokyo’s taxi shelter advertising, acquiring Vistar Communication's 58 OoH panels and expanding MC Decaux’s transit OoH network across the city, which spans 850 bus shelters.

JC Decaux has signed an agreement to acquire Vista Communications, a Tokyo-based company specializing in advertising on taxi shelters. The deal was finalized on March 30, 2026.

Since 2012, Vista has operated 29 taxi shelters in Tokyo, offering 58 advertising faces, including 7 digital units, mainly in busy districts such as Shibuya, Roppongi, Shinjuku, Shinagawa, Akihabara, and Ueno. The shelters serve both local residents and international visitors while they wait for taxis.

The acquisition will strengthen JC Decaux’s presence in Tokyo through its joint venture, MC Decaux – 85% owned by JC Decaux and 15% by Mitsubishi Corporation. It marks the company’s entry into the taxi shelter segment in Japan. It complements MC Decaux’s existing network of around 850 B-Stop advertising bus shelters in the city.

Jean-Charles Decaux, Co-CEO of JC Decaux, said: “We are very pleased to increase the number of advertising shelters at taxi stops managed by Tokyo Taxi Center to better serve the inhabitants of Tokyo, with a more comprehensive and consistent design, cleaning and maintenance proposition in one of the world’s most dynamic metropolitan areas and in an increasingly digitized outdoor advertising market.”

MC Decaux currently operates B-Stop bus shelters and CIP (City Information Panels) in 43 Japanese cities, including the ten largest by population: Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo, Fukuoka, Kawasaki, Kobe, Kyoto, and Hiroshima.
