Samsung Freestyle+: AI Boost and Double Brightness

Samsung’s new Freestyle+ projector debuts at CES 2026 with nearly double the brightness and a suite of AI features that transform image quality on real‑world surfaces. The compact device remains consumer‑focused, but its enhanced performance opens new creative possibilities for experiential digital signage.

Samsung’s original Freestyle projector created a stir when it debuted at CES 2022 (invidis report). Its compact, cylindrical design and the unusual option to screw it into a standard lamp socket opened up entirely new usage scenarios. But for all its innovation, one limitation remained: the Freestyle simply wasn’t bright enough for digital signage. Now, at CES 2026, Samsung is introducing the Freestyle+ – an upgrade that delivers almost double the brightness and adds a suite of new AI‑driven features.

A Consumer Device with Digital Signage Potential

Even the new Freestyle+ remains primarily a consumer‑focused device – a companion to Samsung’s LCD displays rather than a replacement. Its strengths lie in temporary installations, streaming, gaming sessions, and mobile use independent of fixed power sources.

However, previous Freestyle generations (including the 2023 update with edge blending) were only effective in dark environments. The limiting factor: the LED projection engine simply could not deliver enough brightness for professional applications. With the Freestyle+, Samsung addresses this issue. The projector now reaches a manageable 430 lumens, nearly twice the brightness of its predecessor – making it more relevant for creative digital signage use cases.

AI OptiScreen: Smarter Projection for Real‑World Surfaces

Brightness isn’t the only improvement. Samsung has integrated multiple AI‑based enhancements designed to optimize projections across uneven, textured, or atypical surfaces.

The new AI OptiScreen system includes:

  • Auto Keystone – Automatically corrects image distortion—even on irregular surfaces such as corners, curtains or angled walls.
  • Real‑time Focus – Continuously adjusts sharpness as the projector moves or rotates, ensuring stable, clear images.
  • Screen Fit – Automatically adapts the image to the size of a compatible projection screen.
  • Wall Calibration – Analyzes the color and texture of the projection surface to minimize visual distortion.

These capabilities make the Freestyle+ especially useful for pop‑up experiences, retail activations, and ambient digital content on unconventional surfaces.

Same Cylindrical Design, More Flexibility

Samsung has retained the Freestyle’s familiar form factor: a small, cylindrical body with a 180‑degree rotational axis. This allows projection onto walls, floors, ceilings, or any available surface – without additional mounts or accessories.

The device’s flexibility enables spontaneous installations and creative integrations that adapt easily to changing spaces and daylight conditions. Samsung also adds new AI‑powered sound features to improve audio performance—always a challenge with compact hardware.

The Freestyle+ will not replace professional‑grade projectors or LED displays in commercial installations. But for mobile, temporary, or experiential digital signage, it offers a compelling mix of portability, AI‑enhanced image correction, and creative freedom.
