Spain’s Growth Secret: What the Boom Means for Digital Signage

Spain is rapidly emerging as a new gravity center for the ProAV and Digital Signage industry. Driven by strong economic growth and the long-term impact of ISE in Barcelona, the country is attracting talent, investment, and industry infrastructure.

Spain has quietly evolved into one of Europe’s most dynamic economies. While much of the continent is wrestling with stagnation and structural weaknesses, Spain’s economy  expanded by 3.5 percent in 2024, followed by 2.9 percent in 2025, and is expected to grow at least twice as fast as the EU average in 2026.

In an interview with Wirtschaftswoche, Jens Eisenschmidt of US Investment bank Morgan Stanley points to a combination of factors driving this momentum: steady immigration from Latin America, comparatively low energy prices, and a labor market that remains cost‑competitive by Western European standards. It is a mix that attracts international investment and fuels domestic demand.

An attractive AV market beyond ISE

In the AV and Digital Signage sector, Spain is best known as the home of ISE – the world’s largest ProAV trade show – which has set new attendance and exhibitor records every year since moving from Amsterdam to Barcelona. Yet commercially, the Iberian Peninsula remains a secondary market. After Germany, the UK, and the Nordics, Spain and Portugal sit comfortably in the mid‑field. Despite this, a structural shift is underway.

The gravitational pull of ISE has turned Barcelona into a year‑round magnet for the global ProAV industry. Digital Signage providers, integrators, and software companies are increasingly establishing permanent showrooms, regional hubs, and innovation labs or were founded in the city. The newly created ISE Foundation aims to accelerate this development further by attracting more businesses to the region and generating new jobs.

Turning Barcelona into a Creative Stronghold

Barcelona’s ambition goes beyond hosting a successful trade show. With the support of the Catalan government, the city of Barcelona, and ISE, the region aims to position itself as Europe’s AV and creative capital. A dedicated ProAV cluster is planned around the Three Chimneys district – transforming a former industrial area into a focal point for media technology, immersive content, and creative industries. For international companies, this creates an ecosystem where talent, innovation, and industry partners sit within walking distance of each other.

The momentum is not confined to Catalonia. The Madrid metropolitan area is experiencing a parallel boom. Global consultancies, financial service providers, and law firms are expanding rapidly in the capital, drawn by its international workforce and economic dynamism. The Digital Signage sector is following suit. Companies such as Samsung and Econocom have established substantial operations in and around Madrid, strengthening the region’s role as the commercial and political center of Spain.

Spain’s economic upswing is reshaping the industry landscape. What was once mainly a trade show destination is becoming a long‑term business opportunity for ProAV and Digital Signage providers. The combination of strong economic growth, competitive cost structures, political support for creative industries, and the gravitational force of ISE is steadily redefining Spain’s position on the European industry map.
