German publishing giant Axel Springer has reached an agreement to acquire Telegraph Media Group, publisher of The Daily Telegraph, in one of the most significant media transactions in Europe this year.

Publishing: Axel Springer Acquires Telegraph Media Group for £575 Million
The deal places one of the United Kingdom’s most historic newspaper brands under the control of a company that has spent the past decade reshaping itself as a digital-first global media business.
The acquisition also signals an ambition to further expand the Telegraph brand beyond the UK. Axel Springer says it plans to accelerate the publisher’s growth in the United States, drawing on the international expertise of its media brands Politico and Business Insider.
Telegraph Media Group publishes The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Telegraph, and their associated digital platforms. The titles are among the most established newspapers in the UK, with a long history in national journalism and political coverage.
Axel Springer, based in Berlin, is Germany’s largest media company and one of Europe’s most influential publishing groups. Over the past decade the company has increasingly positioned itself as a digital-first organization, investing heavily in online journalism, advertising platforms, and emerging media channels.
The company has also invested into digital signage and digital-out-of-home. Several years ago, it acquired the connected-screen startup Framen, building a network focused on in-store DooH in different commercial environments, such as co-working spaces and retail stores, with displays that deliver content and advertising.
