Düsseldorf | Euroshop 2026 showcases ITAB’s remarkable transformation from a Scandinavian metalworker into Europe’s new shopfitting powerhouse. With the acquisition of HMY and a rapidly expanding digital portfolio, the company is redefining what a global retail interiors partner looks like.

Euroshop 2026: ITAB – The New Leader in Retail Interior
The Swedish shopfitter ITAB has undergone one of the most remarkable transformations in the European retail industry. What began as a classic metal construction company specializing in shelving and checkout zones for grocery retailers has, over the past years, evolved into an international end‑to‑end provider for retail interiors, technology, and lighting. With the acquisitions of HMY and Blink, ITAB now employs 5,300 people and generates €1.2 billion in revenue – a scale that positions the company as the undisputed new leader in European shopfitting.
From Metal Construction to Retail Experience Partner
Five years ago, invidis visited ITAB’s headquarters in Jönköping, right in the heartland of Sweden. Back then, ITAB had just begun investing in Swedish retail tech companies. We wanted to understand how a traditional metalworker intended to connect with the digital world of signage and retail media. The shopfitting expertise was impressive, but it was difficult to imagine how the analog foundations of store construction could merge with digital innovation.
Today, the transformation is complete. ITAB has emerged as a fully integrated retail partner – covering everything from design and interiors to lighting, self‑service solutions, digital touchpoints, and global rollout capabilities.

HMY Acquisition: A European Powerhouse Emerges
The turning point came with the 2025 acquisition of HMY, one of France’s largest shopfitting specialists. Overnight, ITAB nearly doubled its revenue and created a new European champion. The combined company now commands unprecedented market presence across the continent.
While ITAB has always been strong in Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe, and the UK, HMY brings dominant coverage in France, Spain, Turkey, Brazil, and Mexico. Their footprints even complement each other in South America, where ITAB is deeply rooted in Argentina and HMY in Brazil. The Mexican manufacturing hub plays a particularly strategic role, as it enables duty‑free imports into the US – a decisive advantage in the world’s most competitive retail market.
Size matters in shopfitting. Manufacturing capacity, supply chain efficiency, and access to raw materials all improve dramatically at scale. ITAB’s European competitor, Umdasch Shopfitting, generates around €300 million – a fraction of the new ITAB + HMY structure. Fair enough – the Umdasch Group including Doka scaffolding generates 1,8bn EUR revenue. The message is clear: global retailers increasingly require global shopfitting partners.
Digital and Physical Worlds Converge
The integration of HMY also reinforces ITAB’s digital ambitions. HMY remains active in the digital signage space – including automotive – and ITAB has strengthened its tech portfolio with the acquisition of German AI retail tech specialist Signatrix and retail design agency Blink.
This creates a unique combination: global heavy industrial production capacity, creative design talent, and digital innovation under one roof. For global retailers, it means fewer interfaces, more consistency, and partners who can deliver fully integrated store concepts worldwide.
The shopfitting market is highly competitive and under huge cost pressure. A global production network with low labour-cost is necessary complemented by a strong digital portfolio generating recurring high-margin revenues.
A Complete Retail Offering
Today’s ITAB covers almost the entire retail interior value chain: consultative store design, tailor‑made furniture, lighting systems, self‑checkouts and smart gates, shopper flow management, and interactive digital solutions built for physical stores. The company’s expansion strategy reflects a broader trend in shopfitting – retailers want fewer suppliers, more global capability, and a seamless blend of design, construction, and technology.
