Johannesburg: Mediatech Africa Returns After Six-Year Hiatus

Mediatech Africa, the continent’s largest ProAV and broadcast technology showcase, is making a long-awaited comeback from 30 June to 2 July 2026. After a six-year break, the event returns with a new theme: “Converge Connect Create” - reflecting the growing convergence of technology sectors.

The 2026 edition of Mediatech Africa will debut at Johannesburg’s iconic Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, offering an immersive ProAV and broadcast showcase at a venue synonymous with world-class experiences. Simon Robinson, who launched the first show, returned as Exhibition Director to spearhead the 2026 return, emphasizing the industry need for a African show.

A Story of Convergence

Since its launch in 2001, Mediatech Africa has evolved alongside the South African market. With a distributor-driven ecosystem where companies operate across multiple verticals, expanding the show’s scope to include AV integration, pro audio, lighting, staging, and content creation was a natural progression.

“Truthfully, it wasn’t part of some grand plan,” admits Simon Robinson, Show Director of Mediatech Africa. “Our distributors were already working across sectors, so it made sense for the show to do the same. Looking back, we were living the ‘convergence’ story long before it became a global trend. Converge. Connect. Create. sums up exactly where the industry is now.”

Global Trends, Local Impact

Robinson points to similar developments worldwide: “ISE started purely as an AV integration show and now attracts live event technology and broadcast brands. IBC, traditionally broadcast-first, is also incorporating AV. Globally, these sectors are aligning more closely – and Africa is no exception.”

Mediatech Africa will run for three days including hands-on technology showcases, live demos, and networking opportunities. The focus: real-world solutions for diverse environments – from smart classrooms and control rooms to stadiums, houses of worship, broadcast studios, and corporate spaces.
