Retail Media: Co-op Expands In-Store Network to over 15,800 Screens

Co-op Media Network has completed its 1,000th front-of-store screen rollout, boosting its total digital touchpoints across the UK to over 15,800 in partnership with Grassfish and Commercial IT Services.

The Co-op Media Network (CMN) has reached a milestone with the installation of its 1,000th front-of-store digital advertising screen, expanding its total network of digital touchpoints across the UK to more than 15,800. This includes both the in-store screen network and the front-of-store network, which consists of shop window displays – which technically do not count as retail media.

Nonetheless, this milestone installation, completed in Newton Stewart, Scotland, highlights the retailer’s rapid retail media and DooH deployment.

The convenience retailer initially planned to roll out 300 front-of-store displays last year, but the figure has now increased by more than 230 percent in just twelve months. Across its 2,300 UK stores, Co-op now operates 15,871 digital screens, including customer-facing tills, kiosks, and self-service checkouts.

Delivered in partnership with Commercial IT Services and Grassfish, the expansion spans major urban, suburban, and rural locations – including festival sites, hospitals, and transportation hubs.

“With 70 percent of the UK population living within two miles of a Co-op store, we’re uniquely positioned to deliver both reach and relevance,” said Kenyatte Nelson, Co-op’s chief membership and customer officer. “Our front-of-store network strengthens Co-op’s position as a media owner and enhances opportunities for brands to connect with everyday shoppers.”

SMG Chief Client Officer Lee LeFeuvre added that the growth marks a significant step forward for in-store digital media, calling front-of-store screens “one of the most effective ways to reach shoppers at the point of purchase.”

Co-op plans to continue expanding its retail media network into 2026, with further innovations expected early next year.
