India has unveiled its first AI-powered road safety billboard, developed in collaboration with one of the country’s leading Out of Home media owners Signpost India and local authorities. This innovative DooH-installation transforms a busy city junction into a real-time accountability platform.

No Escape from DooH: AI Tracks and Displays Traffic Fines
Located at Trinity Circle, one of Bengaluru’s most congested intersections, Signpost India‘s digital billboard scans vehicle number plates using AI-based cameras. Within seconds, it cross-references each licence plate with government databases to identify unpaid traffic fines, expired insurance policies, or overdue vehicle inspections. The results are then displayed on a large LED DooH screen for all to see.
But it’s not just about naming and shaming. Vehicles found to be fully compliant are publicly acknowledged, reinforcing positive behavior and encouraging others to follow suit.
A Digital Solution to a National Challenge
India faces a massive traffic violation backlog, with over 1.15 billion Euros in fines issued and 864m Euros still unpaid. Bengaluru alone recorded 8.29 million violations last year. The AI billboard doesn’t issue new penalties – it simply makes existing ones impossible to ignore.
If successful, the traffic fine installation will be rolled-out across major cities throughout India. The DooH smart city concept demonstrates how digital out-of-home media can evolve beyond advertising to serve civic and social functions.
