Global First: Poppulo Earns AI Certification

Poppulo has become the first digital signage provider to receive the ISO certification for Responsible AI. As AI becomes a strategic pillar in workplace communications, certified environments are essential for enterprise-grade deployments.

As artificial intelligence becomes a core component of digital signage platforms, a new ISO standard is gaining traction: ISO 42001:2023 – Responsible AI. The certification, which covers AI governance, data security, and enterprise scalability, is the first globally recognized framework for Artificial Intelligence Management Systems (AIMS). Now, Poppulo has become the first digital signage provider to successfully achieve this certification – setting a new benchmark for the industry.

AI Integration at Enterprise Scale

Poppulo, a specialist in workplace and employee communications, has long been a pioneer in AI integration. As previously reported on Sixteen:Nine, the company has embedded AI deeply into its platform – both in its core product and as a paid add-on. With more than 600,000 installed touchpoints, Poppulo is now positioning itself as a market leader in AI-powered digital signage.

At DSS Europe in Munich, CEO Ruth Farnell shared how AI is fully integrated into Poppulo’s organization, product development, and business model. The company, formed through the merger of FWI (US) and Poppulo (Ireland), already generates a multi-million dollar revenue stream from AI features.

invidis Academy: AI in Digital Signage

To support the industry’s transition, the invidis Impact Team offers AI workshops for digital signage providers and end users. These sessions cover best practices, product development, and new business models. For more information, contact Markus Deserno at markus.deserno@invidis.com.

Why Responsible AI Matters

ISO 42001 certified platforms provide a secure foundation for Agentic AI, allowing users to deploy customized, scalable AI solutions with confidence. This is especially critical for cross-channel employee communications across digital signage, mobile, and intranet environments, where business-critical and confidential data demands the highest security standards.

EU AI-Act – Compliance Is Non-Negotiable

With the EU enforcing the world’s strictest AI regulations, businesses operating in or with EU subsidiaries want to comply globally. With the exception of China, global organisations aim for standards vs regional solutions. For users of workplace communication platforms like Poppulo or Appspace, global deployments must meet the highest regulatory thresholds.

invidis Comment

Just as with IT security, AI will become a hygiene factor in the future. To survive in the market with enterprise customers, globally recognized ISO certifications are becoming a must – also for digital signage platform providers.

Poppulo – with an installed base of more than 600,000 touchpoints – has become the AI market leader: no other provider invests equally as consistently. At DSS Europe in Munich in May, Poppulo CEO Ruth Farnell provided insights into how deeply AI is integrated into Poppulo’s organization, product development, and business model. Both in the core product and as a paid add-on option.

For the US-Irish company – Poppulo emerged from a merger of digital signage provider FWI and the Irish Employee communication App Poppulo – AI is already generating a significant additional revenue stream.

It’s no coincidence that workplace specialists like Poppulo and its largest competitor, Appspace are leading the way in AI integration. After all, no other digital signage vertical, with the exception of manufacturing, has the same amount of internal data available for intelligent digital signage concepts.

But DooH, retail, and other industries will also have to jump on the AI bandwagon and produce certifications, or they will be left behind in lucrative enterprise tenders.
