5.85m Lumens: The World’s Brightest Projection

Singapore | On August 9th, Singapore celebrates National Day – this year the 60th since independence. To mark the anniversary, the city-state is transformed into a sea of flags – both physical and digital. Projection mapping is being used on official buildings and corporate headquarters. UOB Bank is leading the pack with the most spectacular projection. invidis was on site.

Projection mapping can be found in many places around the world – but rarely does a company undertake such immense efforts. Southeast Asia’s largest bank, UOB, is projecting a 280-meter-tallest image onto its headquarters on the Singapore River. A Guinness Book of Records project, as invidis previously reported (article).

More than 60 high-performance projectors generate the main image from across the Singapore River, supported by additional projects at other locations. We tried to count and identified around 100 projectors. However, achieving the reported 5.85 million lumens output requires at least 115 Panasonic Mevix PT-RQ50k projectors or even more, with lower light output.

The effort is immense – not only installing the huge number of projectors on weatherproof racks, but also supplying them with power and cooling. Each individual projector is cooled by a dedicated external fan.

We took a look around and brought back a few pictures:
