Ten concerts, 740,000 expected fans: On Friday, Adele started her exclusive concert series in Munich, for which a special arena was built – including a 220m wide and 20m tall LED video wall that is set to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records.
Adele will perform ten times in August on the Munich exhibition grounds, just a 10 minutes ride away from the invidis head office. The only global concert really that is taking place this summer. For this unique concert series, which will not be repeated anywhere else in the world, the organizers built a giant custom-made stadium over the past month. The first thing that catches the eye here is a gigantic, connected LED screen area. With an incredible 220 meters long and 20 meters high, production manager Paul English hopes to break the record for the largest outdoor LED ever built.
How does Adele’s video wall compare to the stages of other world stars? Fast Company did the research:
- Kanye West performed on his Yeezus tour in front of an 18-meter screen,
- Beyoncé toured with an 18-by-18-meter LED cube, and
- Taylor Swift’s Eras tour travels with a 34-meter-wide background LED screen
Adele is notoriously known of keep the press as far out as possible. Therefore, little insights were revealed prior to the premiere. But on Friday, the full effect of Adele’s mega screen was finally revealed. While the singer belted out her anthems on a raised podium, gigantic immersive video shows played in the background. During the James Bond hit Skyfall, for example, Daniel Craig could be seen flying across the screen.
A show that only does justice to the dimensions of the stadium: Around 75,000 people come to the Adele Arena for each performance – so around 750,000 people in total. The concert will conclude on August 31.
