Yamaha: Sustainability in a Playful Way

Tokyo | An electric piano built from sustainable wood usually attracts little attention unless you combine it with a huge digital signage video wall. In the Ginza flagship store, Yamaha playfully shows how sustainability can attract the masses through immersive storytelling.

A 5×4 LCD video wall stands out even in a flagship store on Tokyo’s upscale shopping mile. Yamaha builds on large images on the ground floor, easily visible from the outside, to draw passers-by into the musical instrument store. The atmosphere at Yamaha is dignified, because the focus here is on musicians and instruments. This was evident this weekend when both preschool children and adults showcased their talents.

For this purpose, a Yamaha Iradori piano – an electric piano built exclusively with sustainable materials – was placed in front of the video wall in the entrance area. Passers-by could show off their skills while the instrumental performance was recorded on video by friends and family.

Gamification with digital signage

Yamaha created a social media moment of fame for visitors by connecting the electric piano to the video wall. The more the piano was played, the more color appeared on the digital artwork. After 5 minutes, the video wall would shine in full color and the piano players beamed with pride and gratefully accepted the applause of the audience. It’s another example of how digital signage creates unforgettable immersive experiences.

Yamaha also uses additional digital signage installations on the upper floors to bring the instruments on display to life with concert content.
