Samsung’s IoT platform Smartthings has been certified with the globally relevant IT security ISO 27001 certification. The certification defines strict requirements for information security and service operability and is now a mandatory certification for many enterprise customers. The Samsung CMS platform VXT was already certified with ISO 27001 at ISE 2024.
Samsung is not the first digital signage provider with ISO 27001 certification, but it is the first provider with both a certified CMS and IoT platform. ISO 27001 is the leading global standard for information security management systems (ISMS) and was created by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The standard provides companies such as digital signage platform providers with guidance on how to systematically manage data processing risks and achieve information protection goals.
To be certified, a company must meet the standard in a total of 123 detailed points, including information security guidelines, access control for information resources and incident response. In principle, certifications such as ISO 27001 guide providers to define and implement processes for how data and information are managed in organizations and, in particular, how to deal with irregularities.
In the digital signage industry, only a few ISVs have been ISO 27001 certified so far, usually only cloud-native providers.
Smartthings now also for B2B
In June at the Infocomm in Las Vegas, Samsung presented marketable Smartthings Pro solutions for the first time after the ISE launch. Thousands of IoT sensors can now be integrated into professional digital signage networks via Smartthings Pro. Invidis has reported in detail.
