M&A: Xovis Acquires Hella People Sensing Unit

Swiss analytics specialist Xovis is expanding its portfolio by acquiring the Aglaia people-sensing business from automotive supplier Hella, a part of the Forvia Group. This strategic move allows Xovis to complement its existing airport and retail business with Hella’s public transport people-sensing expertise. Berlin will become the company’s third location, joining the existing ones in Bern and Boston.

Hella’s People Sensing division develops high-precision sensors for counting people, especially in public transport. The Hella people-sensing business unit currently employs 65 people and has been part of Hella Aglaia Mobile Vision, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hella based in Berlin. The transaction is expected to close within the next three to six months. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

Both Xovis and Hella Aglaia specialize in sensor technology and people-counting software. While Hella Aglaia’s People-Sensing Solution predominantly operates in the public transport sector, Xovis concentrates on high-traffic environments such as airports, retail spaces, and stadiums. These solutions play a crucial role in business operations, enabling the calculation of waiting times and the control of passenger flows, both in airport settings and venues like stadiums, buses, and trains.

The solutions are supported by self-developed hardware and software designed to precisely control the flow of people. The plan is to integrate Hella Aglaia’s people-sensing business seamlessly into Xovis’s portfolio, treating it as a complementary third pillar alongside its existing offerings.
