The major display manufacturers are jumping on the e-paper trend one after the other: Sharp/NEC has now presented in collaboration with E-ink a new display prototype in A2 poster format.
PPDS presented its Tableaux display this year, and Sharp/NEC followed up with two models in August. However, these are not yet available on the European market. Now the Japanese company is showing a new prototype at the Sharp Tech Days in Tokyo. It comes in A2 poster format, which corresponds to the dimensions 420 mm x 594 mm and a screen diagonal of around 28 inches. Like the latest Philips tableaux model, the Sharp e-poster is based on E-Ink Spectra 6, the latest color platform from e-paper market leader E-Ink.
The Sharp/NEC E-Paper combines E-Ink technology with an IGZO back panel. The display is battery-operated, but only draws power when changing content. The content display itself does not require any energy. This allows static and color digital signage content to be displayed in sunlight.
It is not yet known when Sharp/NEC will launch the e-poster on the market. However, it is very likely that the prototype will be on display at ISE in Barcelona at the beginning of January 2024. It will also be interesting to see where the display will be priced. The smallest version of the Philips variant is currently priced at around EUR 1,300 net.
At the leading European ProAV trade show in Barcelona, e-paper will be one of the major product trends that will be on show at all major visual solutions manufacturers. PPDS initiated the trend at the last ISE 10 months ago. In the meantime, the Philips Tableaux line has a 25-, 28- and also a 32-inch model.
