Sony provides new remote device management functions for digital signage: A customized Teamviewer module allows remote access to its Bravia displays.
Remote device management is becoming increasingly important in digital signage networks. Sony now has a new solution in its portfolio: The Professional Displays & Solutions division is cooperating with Teamviewer and is bringing customized functions of the well-known IT remote tool for its Bravia 4K displays. This allows the digital signage screens to be monitored and maintained via Teamviewer remote access. This should significantly reduce service calls and downtime.
Cyberattack at Teamviewer – Russian hackers under suspicion
On Wednesday, Teamviewer confirmed a cyberattack on Teamviewer’s corporate IT. The German remote device management specialist suspects a hacker gang close to the Russian state is behind the attack. According to Teamviewer, only the corporate IT was compromised and not the Teamviewer servers. Currently, according to TeamViewer, it does not appear that the attackers had access to customer data or the remote maintenance tool’s production environment.
In contrast to dedicated digital signage RDM solutions like SignageOS or PPDS Wave, Teamviewer offers more general IT features. Sony and Teamviewer allow secure remote access to Bravia screens in both Pro and Customer mode. Remote device management is enabled through the “Always On” function to ensure a reliable connection to the displays.
Joint Sony-Teamviewer development
End-users can get the remote access functions provided via Sony’s proprietary application package. The corresponding solution was jointly developed by Sony and Teamviewer. In other regions, Sony is also cooperating with SignageOS.
“For our customers, easy maintenance and control of our professional displays is becoming increasingly important. That’s why we are pleased to welcome TeamViewer as a new partner of Sony,” says Thorsten Prsybyl, Senior B2B Partnership Manager, Sony Professional Displays & Solutions. “Teamviewer is indispensable when it comes to powerful universal monitoring and control solutions. We look forward to continuing to meet the high standards that our customers expect from Sony.”
“This integration confirms Teamviewer’s position as the leading remote connectivity solution in the digital signage and commercial display sector,” says Alfredo Patron, Executive Vice President Business Development at Teamviewer. “We are very pleased that Sony has chosen us as a partner. We see this as a vote of confidence that underlines TeamViewer’s security and reliability. We expect that this partnership will help numerous service providers to further increase their operational efficiency.”
