Personalized and secure AI experiences

The event began with a keynote by Jong-Hee Han, CEO of the Device Experience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics, which also includes the digital signage portfolio. Han presented the vision of enabling more personalized and secure experiences across multiple devices with AI.

“In the future, Samsung devices will recognize who is speaking and offer a tailored experience. In addition, networked devices and sensors throughout the home can recognize your location, providing another level of personalization,” he said.

Digital Signage Platform VXT

At ISE 2024, Samsung launched with Samsung Visual Experience Transformation (VXT) platform, the successor to Magicinfo. The new CMS solution is cloud-native and therefore a next-gen CMS with wide AI functionality. EVP Alex Lee, Head of Visual Experience, presented in a keynote how users manage digital signage displays with AI and how content can be generated with GenAI. The modern platform architecture enables an easy integration of pre-integrated and recurring partner solutions.

This is where VXT differs significantly from its predecessor Magicinfo. While the now replaced CMS was based on old IT architecture as an isolated silo solution, VXT was developed from the ground up as an open cloud platform that can be easily connected to partner solutions.

“Looking ahead to the future of VXT, we continue to look for new ways to work with developer communities,” said Samsung VXT CEO Alex Lee. “Join us in shaping this new ecosystem and producing the world’s best apps and services on VXT.”

Platform innovation and responsible AI

Samsung also presented the latest Smartthings updates, which are based on open collaboration and AI to provide personalized and seamless user experiences. The IoT platform, which is now also available as a Pro version for B2B use, provides AI-based recommendations based on usage behavior, preferences and even the time of year.

Tizen

Samsung Tizen, the SoC operating system, is also increasingly relying on AI. Samsung integrates dedicated AI chips for faster and more secure communication. According to Samsung, integrating new AI functions is particularly easy because Tizen has a modern, legacy-free software architecture that is now provided with operating system updates for up to seven years.

The longer support of SoC systems is particularly relevant for digital signage use, as LCD screens and LED solutions can usually be used for far longer than five years. From an IT security perspective, operating systems that can no longer be updated are a risk.

AI & Security

The increased use of AI also brings challenges – AI is often a black box. However, Samsung is committed to promoting AI responsibly towards customers and partners. The company acts according to three basic AI ethics principles – fairness, transparency and responsibility.

For example, Samsung is increasingly relying on AI to detect vulnerabilities in Tizen & Co. AI is intended to identify and fix vulnerabilities before a new operating system version comes onto the market.
