Karlsruhe-based retail signage integrator Nexgen Smart Instore is now part of the P.O.S. Group, but continuous to operated as an independent entity. The newly acquired digital signage retail integrator not only expands Radio P.O.S. supermarket portfolio, but complements the current POS offerings with dedicated energy and device management solutions.
The in-store integrator Radio P.O.S. has acquired a majority stake in fellow retail integrator Nexgen Smart Instore. Nexgen Smart Instore GmbH – located in Southern Germany – will become part of the P.O.S. group, but will remain an independent company; the two Nexgen managing directors Marc Masurath and Thomas Grundmann will also remain on board.
Green signage offering
The strategic partnership is intended to enable both companies to expand their market presence. At the same time, Radio P.O.S. customers will benefit from Nexgen’s energy and device management solutions, which enable more energy-efficient operation of in-store media networks.
“We are very excited about the new opportunities this partnership offers,” says Dietmar Otto, CEO of Radio P.O.S. “By combining our expertise in in-store media with Nexgen’s innovative green signage solutions, we can offer our customers not only the latest technology, but also environmentally friendly alternatives.”
Marc Masurath adds: “Our vision has always been to drive digitization in retail with sustainable solutions. The collaboration with Radio P.O.S. opens up new opportunities for us and strengthens our commitment to a greener future.”
Kiel-based P.O.S. The Instore Experience Group is one of the largest digital signage and instore radio integrators in Germany, with multiple subsidiaries trading under different brand identities. In 2023 POS ranked third in the invidis ranking for the DACH region (free download of the invidis Yearbook 2024).
invidis commentary by Florian Rotberg
Radio P.O.S. is one of Europe’s most publicity-shy digital signage providers – the Kiel-based company prefers to let the facts speak for themselves. And they are impressive: the top 3 digital signage integrator has built up a large retail customer portfolio in recent years and quietly and secretly acquired several competitors.
With Nexgen, the Radio P.O.S. group led by Dietmar Otto is investing in an integrator whose retail portfolio (including Edeka in northern Germany) complements the Kiel-based company’s activities. Until the acquisition, Nexgen used primarily the CMS of Online Software AG, while Radio P.O.S. is the most important Dimedis CMS customer. It is quite likely that in the medium-term Nexgen clients with transfer to the Dimedis CMS platform.
Compared to its European neighbors, Germany still lacks dominant digital signage pure-play integrators. Radio POS has a strong market position in the retail market, and the Kiel-based company is the leader in supermarkets. We would be surprised if CEO Dietmar Otto wouldn’t continue to expand the group with further acquisitions.
